-Marybeth Haines, Author of Power of Pets

During her time as an Implementation and Expedite Manager in a large Canadian Telecommunications Company, Helga found that not only did she have to ensure on time installations, she also had to coach the human element of peers and customers who were in stressful situations. Although highly rewarding as it is to be in the telecom sector, she discovered that she wanted to contribute more to others and embarked on a teaching career.
She left her secure and stable corporate job to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in Japan. Her first few months of living in Japan marked a true test for her to maintain her calm. She was ill-equipped to speak the language and had little connections. It was during this time that she mastered the art of staying calm through incredible obstacles and upsetting situations. She was also able to instil that calm in colleagues who were going through a life dilemma by coaching them one on one. Helga’s practices enabled one colleague to make a difficult decision which resulted in changing careers and landed him a strong leadership position in Indonesia. Another colleague, after a difficult and complicated divorce, is now socially active and leading a fulfilling life.
Helga returned to Canada to earn her teaching degree and accepted a teaching position at an Inner City School in the west end of Toronto. She learned how to reach out to behavioural students by applying her principle of staying grounded – staying calm. Motivated by the emptiness and unhappiness that she witnessed in those around her, including colleagues and friends, today Helga mentors adults to lead calm, stress free lives.
